Close up Portraits

Black & White photography

Black and white is art in its own form. Before digital photography the only way to work in black and white was to use black and white film. A contrast boost will deepen the shadows, brighten the highlights, and make your main subject pop. You can tone your pictures, after shooting them in black and white. There are certain subjects that tend to work better than others in black and white. Photographers would use color filters to alter the tones in black and white photos. Once you set your camera mode to Monochrome you may have color filter options and through careful application of these filters, you can capture even better black and white shots.

Fill flash

Fill flash is a photography technique that is used to illuminate the darker areas of an image. Fill flash can iron out unwanted shadows in your pictures. Fill flash is supplemented to correctly expose the subject. It is good to use when your picture is overexposure. Using fill flash and a reflector can ramp up the glow of the subject’s face. You have to adjust your fill light to the natural light. Fill flash can come in handy to take out the minute details of the shots. To use fill flash and you use a pop-up camera flash, you will have a flash mode called “Fill in”. The mode can be selected either from an on-camera button or from the menu. A major problem you will encounter while using fill flash is when ambient light is behind the subject. In order to derive the best upshot, you can go for a 30% flash and 70% natural light.

External Flash

-You would use external flash when you want to fill in shadows or create more light.
-If you use E-TTL mode you don’t have too.
-Flash synchronization is the synchronizing the firing of a photographic flash with the opening of the shutter admitting light to photographic film or electronic image sensor.
-ETTL means evaluate through the lens.
-What will happen is your picture will be brighter.
-They use it to get a soft light.
– Slave mode is mode that instructs a flash unit to monitor incoming light.
-If your picture is too dark or light you should add external flash to fill in dark spots and if it’s too bright use a diffuser for a softer light.

HDR

The HDR process is very cool and easy. You take 5 different shots. Some will be dark and some will be light. You combine them all for the perfect picture. You can change the colors as well. You can make certain colors darker or lighter. I liked adding clouds. The clouds make the picture more interesting. I liked seeing all my different pictures combine into one. I think its a cool way to make the perfect picture.
